An issue is an environmental or conservation problem we are concerned about,  want to monitor and want to share information on. A campaign is an issue which we are actively trying to do something about.

The national Sierra Club groups these into three clusters with the following national priorities:

The Rio Grande Chapter uses these categories to group our campaigns and issues.

Safe & Healthy Communities  (National Priority: 2)

This is a nation-wide Sierra Club program to organize members to become active participants in its campaigns. The Sierra Club has two national club staff members assigned to this in the Rio Grande area, Michael Casaus and Shrayas Jatkar.

The campaign on which this organizing is focused is Global Warming and Clean Energy, with the vehicle being Cool Cities. We are committed to the vibrant Cool Cities campaigns in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, and helping the groups and the chapter achieve maximum success through these programs. The focus of our Cool Cities work is helping keep the city governments on task, providing community input and support on important issues, and making sure that important aspects of the Mayor’s Climate Protection Agreement are followed through and given real energy and budget consideration at the municipal level. Members: The Chapter Needs Your Email Address

We promise not to sell it or constantly ask for money. We will use it to occasionally contact you with important news or when a simple email, letter or phone call to decision-makers right here in New Mexico can make a huge difference for our environment. It's one of the simplest and most effective ways you can help. Plus email saves us mailing costs which we can use for other purposes and of course saves resources, which is good for everyone.

We are also setting up list topics so you will only get the emails in which you're interested. Please send your email address with your name and regular address and, if possible, your member number (which is on all Sierra Club mailings) to address.changes@sierraclub.org. Thank you!
